I read TechRepublic's article on alternative keyboards for Mac users where they recommended 4 keyboards - Apple magic keyboard, Das Keyboard Model S Professional for Mac, Matias Tactile Pro, and Logitech Solar Keyboard K750. They said, 'Some Mac users will spend hundreds of hours per year using their keyboards, so why not choose one that offers the most useful features? Computer keyboards are potentially the single most underappreciated technology component. Many Mac users spend hundreds of hours or more a year using their keyboard.' I certainly agree with this statement, so I took some time to review all their recommendations. Because I wanted something better than a traditional Apple keyboard, I immediately ruled out that one.

Most of the keyboards didn't have reviews on Walmart, so I looked at Amazon. When I looked at the Das Keyboard and noticed it has over 1K reviews averaging 4.3 stars. There the Matias Tactile pro had 237 reviews with an average rating of 3.5. Then the last keyboard, The Logitech Wireless Solar K750 had strong reviews of 3,192 and a rating right at 4. However, I wasn't looking for a wireless keyboard and the keys look just like the Apple keyboard, so I also ruled it out. This left the Matius and Das Keyboard. Buy reviews, the Das Keyboard certainly edges out the Matias, but I gave it a closer look.

Matias - Uses same switches Apple used way back on their original Apple extended keyboard, something called an Alps mechanical switch. Laser etched keys - Mac OSX function keys - 3 port USB 2.0 Hub (2 usable, because it seems like it has one on each side, and one to plug into computer) - N-key rollover (Tracks all keys typed even if pressed all at same time) - White Color and style (Reminds me of the old iMac G3 Das Keyboard Model S - Uses German-engineered mechanical key switches with gold contacts (Cherry MX blue). (Seems like most of the modern keyboards use Cherry MX. Almost all gaming keyboards do for increased speed) - Laser etched keys (same) - Special Mac functions keys (same) - 2 port USB 2.0 hub (Same # usable ports, plus it's a hub) - Sleek glossy, piano black look (Matches my Monitor) - N-key Rollover - Extra-long USB cable (Nice for my L shaped desk) All in all, these are close, but as you can tell by where this review is and some of my comments above, I purchased the Das Keyboard.

In the end, it matched my needs better and I just couldn't get the much higher number of reviews and rating out of my mind. I turned out to be a great purchase and I highly recommend it.
